Legal action against rebel JHU MPs

The decision making body of the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) the Central Committee is expected to file legal action against two of its parliamentarians on charges of violating party rules after they voted in favour of the UPFA candidate for the speaker's post last Thursday.

According to JHU MP, Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thero, charges will be filed against the Colombo MP, Ven. Kathaluwe Rathanaseeha Thero and Gampaha MP,Ven. Aparekke Pannananda Thero shortly.

"These two MPs appeared in parliament on Thursday, after missing for almost five days. They have clearly violated the party rules by casting their votes for the nomination of the new speaker in parliament on Thursday (22). It was the party decision that no JHU MP will participate in the voting of the new speaker. By doing so, these two MPs have failed to maintain party rules and therefore we have decided to file charges against them," the Thero said.

According to Ven. Athuraliye Thero, charge sheets were issued to the two MPs in parliament itself, soon after it was adjourned on Thursday.

"Although Ven. Aparekke Pannananda Thero claims that he had already resigned from the party before the commencement of parliament on April 22, there is no concrete proof that he had resigned," the Thero added.

The Thero also said that they are holding UPFA candidate, Vijitha Herath and a few other UPFA MPs responsible for the disappearance of these two MPs.

"Reasons as to why these two MPs went missing is not clear but we suspect the UPFA of being involved in their disappearance," the Thero said.
