Propping up Treasury coffers
- a daunting task for govt.

The latest fertiliser subsidy announced by the UPFA, effective from May 1, is to drain the Treasury by an additional Rs. 1 billion per annum.

Riding on the farmers' outcry requesting to bring down the cost of urea to Rs. 500, the UPFA in its election campaign promised the farmers that it would be brought down to Rs. 350.
