Questions
over child abduction Controversy
surrou- nds the abduction of an infant from the Kantalai hospital by a
lady doctor who it is alleged is closely connected to a member of
parliament of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP). A
complaint to this effect has been lodged with the National Child
Protection Authority (NCPA). The whereabouts of the baby yet remain
unknown. Chairman, NCPA, Prof. Harendra de Silva said investigations are
underway but so far the authority has not gathered any evidence to suggest
the involvement of a JVP MP of the area. Prof.
De Silva asserted the infant was allegedly removed from the maternity ward
at the Kantalai hospital by a lady doctor. He said the NCPA is yet to
ascertain if the mother indeed sold her baby and if so for how much. It is
also not clear where and with whom the missing child is being kept.
