"Rapping is my life!"

By Jamila Najmuddin

Red Rum, as he is known in the rapping world, is set to achieve his dream of becoming a famous rapper. This 19-year-old rapper is now the talk of the town given his talent.

Having joined the music industry at 14, he won the Talent Search contest in 2003 and is now a member of Cilent Project.

Red Rum’s rapping performance is also well looked forward to during performances with artistes such as Bathiya and Santhush.

Here, Red Rum speaks about his dreams, his talents and love

Q: Three things that turn you on?

A: Since I am a rapper, the three things that turn me on are music, liquor and chicks.

Q: What is your worst memory?

A: I still haven’t had any bad memories because I am a cool and calm person.

Q: If you had 24 hours to live, how would you spend them?

A: I would first go home to my parents and spend a few hours with them. I would then go directly to the studio and record some tracks during my final hours.

Q: If you could change three things in your life, what would you change?

A: I do not want to change anything because I am happy just the way I am.

Q: What were you like in school?

A: I was a naughty child whose first love was music. I would always get caught playing some instrument during class hours and the teachers would severely warn me saying that ‘studies come first, then music.’ I also took part in a lot of Interact concerts where I was on stage rapping my favourite hits.

Q: If you house caught fire and you could save three things, what would you save?

A: I would first save my parents, then my computer and then my hip-hop clothes.

Q: Something you could never part with?

A: I can never part with my music because rapping is my life.

Q: What is your dream?

A: I have three dreams — the first is to record my own music album, second is to become a platinum rap artiste and my third is to get one of my tracks onto the Billboards.

Q: Describe your first date in detail?

A: It was definitely hot. I can still remember it but it is just too hard to explain it.

Q: What is the first thing you notice in the member of the opposite sex?

A: I first notice her face, then her body and then her smile.

Q: Do you believe in love at first sight?

A: No, I do not believe in that because you cannot fall in love with a person at the first glimpse. You need to know that person because inner beauty matters more than outer beauty.

Q: What is your nickname?

A: My rapping nickname is Red Rum but I am mostly known as LZA.

Q: What do you do in your free time?

A: I just chill out and enjoy my music.

Q: What is the best thing someone ever said to you?

A: A lot of people say a lot of things about me but I like it best when they say I am a good rapper.

Q: If you could be someone else, who would you be and why?

A: I would love to be ‘The Game.’ He is an international rapper and someday I hope to become like him.
