Sri Lanka’s iconic brand of high quality furniture, Mahogany Masterpieces, recently marked its presence on the web with the launching of its new inter-active website http://www.mahoganymasterpieces.com/
Commenting on the move, Kishan Gooneratne, Managing Director of Craft Supplies said that the website would make it easier for their customers both local and overseas, to interact with the company.
‘They can find out about our vast range of furniture and home accessories including mattresses, linen, lamp shades, etc., and participate in new promotions and be updated of our latest products and services,” he added.
The website will also feature the company’s innovative concept, the Furniture Spa which seeks to give ‘tired and old’ furniture new life by re-upholstering, stain removal and shampooing. Gooneratne says that the website will be an ideal reference point for architects and interior designers and will showcase their hotel and office projects. Linked to social media websites such as Facebook, it will present the on-line shopper with an ideal opportunity to connect with his/her favorite furniture store.
Craft Supplies commenced operations in 1974 and went on to specialize in high quality period furniture before branching out into a wide selection of furniture for homes, offices and hotels through the brand name Mahogany Masterpieces. Each piece is made from seasoned luxury quality timber by master craftsmen using a combination of modern technology and traditional carpentry techniques.
Gooneratne says that the company specializes in three categories of furniture ; the traditional period pieces that stand the test of time, the contemporary style of furniture which comes with a modern yet practical touch and fusion furniture which blends the modern with the traditional, achieving a fine balance that creates outstanding pieces. The company also offers furniture made to customer specifications such as pantry cupboards, built-in closets and bedroom suites, in addition to office and hotel lay-outs.
The brand Mahogany Masterpieces, launched in 2005 consists of a line of classic furniture, introducing the customers to a new sense of style and elegance. Gooneratne says that their range of baby furniture under the brand name Cuddles and Cradles, has also been received very well. Diversifying into various areas, he says, has opened doors to many opportunities and enables the company to stay in tune with the changing needs of customers both in Sri Lanka and abroad.
Gooneratne says that the company also advises customers on the kind of furniture and style that would suit their lifestyle best. “What we create for our customers are masterpieces – the kind of furniture that makes every purchase an investment you want to lovingly take care of for the next generation,” he said.
At their factory located at Boralesgamuwa, where livelihood for over 100 employees is provided, Craft Supplies takes pride in turning out furniture that showcases high quality Sri Lankan craftsmanship. “As a totally Sri Lankan company, we are proud of our quality that meets the highest standards. In fact, most of our customers have been with us for decades, and have recommended us to their friends and family, enabling us to build strong and close relationships with our customers,” Gooneratne added.
Craft Supplies maintains two showrooms with one located in the heart of Colombo and the other in Nugegoda.

THE EXTERMINATORS GREEN REVOLUTION
SMART MISSILE is an organic termite bait invented under The Exterminators’ GREEN REVOLUTION initiative ‘GREEN CONCEPTS” themed Carbon Footprint – Take a BIG STEP – Take it with you. It is one of the varieties of tools used by Exterminators to control one of the most covert and challenging invaders of homes – the subterranean termite.
SMART MISSILE is based on a totally different concept than the traditional chemical soil treatment which has been around for over a century. Instead of applying a chemical barrier designed to prevent termites from reaching the source of food, termites are actually offered food, called bait.
The SMART MISSILE has two components; a termite baiting matrix containing cellulose (the main constituent of wood and a staple of a termite’s diet) and second is a slow acting non repellent termiticide
The SMART MISSILE works by not immediately killing the termites which feed on it, giving them time to recruit nestmates to the bait and pass the slow-acting termiticide to other colony members through food transfer behaviors that are characteristic of social insect colonies.
The SMART MISSILE is like a long-term intravenous port delivering drugs to a patient. Termite bait acts as a missile for delivery of termiticides into the “heart” of the termite colony, ultimately leading to the elimination of the termite colony, which is why it is called a Smart Missile.
The goal of the SMART MISSILE is to eliminate the termite colony from building structures and thereafter monitor and detect the property, preventing termite infestation in the early stages, not just exclusion, which is the primary objective of chemical barrier treatments.
SMART MISSILE is designed to precisely target subterranean termites. Smart Missile (Termite Bait) is considered environmentally friendly as it does not affect other organisms. The Smart Missile uses only a small amount of insecticide compared to the termiticide used for conventional soil treatments
The SMART MISSILE can only protect structures where it is installed. There may be many colonies foraging in your neighborhood, and the one attacking your home is not necessarily the one attacking your neighbour’s home. Most companies will not inspect after a liquid chemical treatment. GREEN TEAM- TEO’s (Termite Elimination Officers) are different. They provide an ongoing service for your peace of mind. Several times a year, they monitor the ”Smart Missiles” for termites, bait to eliminate termite colonies and then monitor again for any new termite colonies that might invade the area. Ongoing monitoring makes the “Smart Missile” good at stopping a current infestation and preventing a future one. Many homeowners with no known termite problems have used the “Smart Missile” to help make sure their property stays that way.
GREEN POLICY: Life on earth depends on a very complex set of interactions between different life forms. Examination of the extent to which humans disrupt this arrangement is a relatively recent concern, but one that is rapidly growing. The direct and indirect effects of pesticides on wildlife, waterways and the environment at large may be harmful and are entirely undesirable. THE EXTERMINATORS (PVT) LTD will take extra care to minimize the risk to non-target insects and the environment.
QUALITY POLICY: EXTERMINATORS strives to ensure consistent and reliable performance in its pest management services in order to meet all customer expectations. It is committed to the highest ethical standards demonstrated to our employees, our customers, our community and our suppliers by our quality management system. We develop organizational excellence and quality awareness through innovative process improvements, training, measurements and development of customer and employee satisfaction programs.

Q: What is a “SMART MISSILE”?
A: It is organic termite bait invented under The Exterminators’ GREEN REVOLUTION initiative GREEN CONCEPTS themed Carbon Footprint – Take a BIG STEP – Take it with you. It is a tool used by The Exterminators to control one of the most covert and challenging invaders of houses – the subterranean termite.
Q: What is the science of the Smart Missile?
A: It is based on a totally different concept to the traditional chemical soil treatment which has been around for over a century. Instead of applying a chemical barrier designed to prevent termites from reaching the source of food, termites are actually offered food, called bait.
Q: What are the components of the Smart Missile?
A: It has two components; a termite baiting matrix containing cellulose (the main constituent of wood and a staple of a termite’s diet) and it is also a slow acting non repellent termiticide.
Q: How does the Smart Missile work?
A: Termites feeding on the SMART MISSILE are not killed immediately, so they have time to recruit nestmates to the bait and pass the slow-acting termiticide to other colony members through food transfer behaviors that are characteristic of social insect colonies.
Q: Why is it named Smart Missile?
A: Like a long-term intravenous port delivering drugs to a patient, termite bait acts as a missile for delivery of termiticides into the “heart” of the termite colony, ultimately leading to the elimination of the termite colony. That is why it is a Smart Missile
Q: What is the goal of the Smart Missile?
A: The goal is to prevent the termite colony from building structures and thereafter monitor the property for termite infestation in the early stages, not just exclusion, which is the primary objective of chemical barrier treatments
Q: Why is it called THE GREEN REVOLUTION?
A: It is designed to precisely target subterranean termites. The Smart Missile is considered environmentally friendly as it does not affect other organisms. The Smart Missile uses only a small amount of insecticide compared to the termiticide used for conventional soil treatments
Q: My neighbors use the Smart Missile. Is my house protected, too?
A: No. The Smart Missile can only protect structures where it is installed. There may be many colonies foraging in your neighborhood, and the one attacking your house is not necessarily the one attacking your neighbor’s house.
Q: How will the property be monitored for the ongoing threat of termites?
A: Following a liquid chemical treatment, most companies do not provide a follow-up inspection service. The GREEN TEAM – TEO’s (Termite Elimination Officers) will provide an ongoing service for your peace of mind. They monitor the Smart Missiles for termites, bait to eliminate termite colonies and then monitor again for any new termite colonies that might invade the area, several times per year.
Q: I do not have a termite problem now. Can the Smart Missile protect my propertyfrom future invasions?
A: Yes. Ongoing monitoring makes the Smart Missile good at stopping a current infestation and preventing future ones. Many homeowners with no known termite problems have used the Smart Missile to help make sure their properties stay termite free.

Insulated Load Bearing Structural Panels System: An award winning Technology on the rise
The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries and Sri Lanka Institute of Architects, recognized Micro Constructions (Pte) Ltd. for superior design and construction capabilities and recently awarded them the Merit Award at the CNCI Achievers Awards 2010 and the Product Award at the Annual Sessions of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects 2011, respectively,
Micro Constructions (Pte) Ltd was granted ISO 9001:2008 for Civil Engineering construction work using insulated Load Bearing Structural Building Technology It is an affiliated company of Micro Cars Ltd. the pioneer local car manufacturer in Sri Lanka.
The product that has gained Micro Constructions critical acclaim is their range of permanent construction solutions that uplift the local construction industry towards US and European standards. The technology adopted in this product has proven the test of 50 years, in more than 25 countries, including USA, Europe, Mexico, Nicaragua, Trinidad and China.
The new technology consists of concrete walls that are made of light weight panels used for the structure, which contain a polystyrene layer in the center to reduce heat transfer to houses, providing a comfortable living environment, while reducing the cost on air conditioners in hot areas and heating in cold areas.
Speaking to The Sunday Leader, Group Director of Micro Constructions, C. P. Guhashanka stated that the recognition is appreciated; and that he believes this is a clearsign that times in construction are changing for the better.
Guhashanka said, “In a day and age where global warming dominates our daily life, we have proven with our paneling product, that environmentally friendly construction can work as well as the traditional form and we have stayed committed to promoting the longterm benefits that come with this product.”
Explaining in depth about the award winning product, he said that although this product may raise concerns from the uninformed, questions of quality and most importantly durability, have never been raised.
The Polystyrene is encased in galvanized high tensile steel mesh, which provides a space frame type structure for walls throughout the building. Test reports and past records prove that structures built with this technology can resist cyclones, floods, hurricane force winds of over 160MPH, and earthquakes of 8.5 on the Richter scale.
This technology is architecturally versatile and can adopt any design or shape, and complies with ICBO and ICC Standards of the USA.

Felicitating the Charter House team during a recent visit to Sri Lanka, General Manager Grohe, Pradip Patnaik, applauded Charter House’s current market leadership, as well as the strategies it has adopted for sustained future success. With over 20 years of experience in the industry, Charter House is now the number one provider of premium quality bath and sanitary ware solutions. Pointing to the strong positioning efforts undertaken by Charter House on behalf of the world-renowned Grohe brand, Patnaik commended the company’s vision and understanding of the market.
Charter House’s in-depth market knowledge is founded upon over 20 years of marketing and supplying bathroom solutions to the hospitality, residential and commercial sectors. Now that the national economy is finally reaping the dividends of peace, Charter House is perfectly positioned to provide the premium quality products needed by the rapidly growing construction industry. Over the past year alone, the company has introduced both the Baulines and Ondus ranges from Grohe to cater to different customer segments.
The new Baulines range combines provocative Bauhaus-inspired designs, luxurious materials and finishes and advanced German manufacturing techniques in an affordable package. Instead of having to settle for low quality products, customers on a budget can now opt for the premium quality Baulines range. Like all Grohe products, this range is backed by the Super 10 Year Warranty and Charter House’s excellent after-sales service, giving customers total peace-of-mind at no extra cost.
Heartened by the evolving local market, Patnaik was effusive about the Sri Lankan launch of the Ondus range of bathware. This fully digital, radical new line of bathware revolutionizes the bath experience by allowing users to customize water temperature, flow rate, and spray pattern through a sleek, intuitive remote control.
Its sensual minimalist design appeals to the most discriminating consumers, with every faucet, mixer and accessory reflecting this dramatically different design aesthetic.
The Ondus and Baulines ranges, along with the rest of the premium quality bath and sanitary ware ranges from Grohe Inda, and Bravat, can be viewed at the Charter House Lifestyle showroom on Havelock Road, Colombo 5.
The ultra-modern showroom features ample parking, giving prospective customers the chance to experience first-hand the style and functionality of the company’s extensive offerings.
While wrapping up his visit, Patnaik lauded Charter House for achieving its ambitious sales and marketing objectives for 2010 and was confident in the company’s ability to end 2011 on a high note.
Indeed, the strategic changes made at Charter House, including a corporate restructuring and a renewed emphasis on first-class customer service, have given the company a major advantage in successfully facing the challenges and opportunities of the next 3 to 5 years.
