New four ( 4) National Age Group Records were established by Mahamaya swimmers in the Under 14 and 16 Medley and Freestyle Relays, by Vinoli, Nisali, Thilini, Pawani & Shalani of under 16 and Mahesha, Sandeepa, Niresha, Utthama, Nethmi & Devindaya of Under 14 .

This is the 3rd victory recorded by Mahamaya swimmers for the 2013 season. The season was started by the team by winning the 2 miles sea swimming championship in junior and senior competitions for the first time.

The “lake round girls” stormed the sea which raised the eyebrows of many. They proved that they could not only rule the pool but the sea as well.

The pentathlon competition was won for the 6th consecutive year which was the second victory and winning the relay championship was the third for the season which will give the team high moral boost for the upcoming Sri Lanka Schools swimming championship to be held in mid-June where Mahamaya have won consecutively fourteen times (14). Can they make it for the 15th in a row? It could create a historic record in any competitive team championship!

The 2013 team is captained by experienced swimmer Imani Abayakoon and strengthened by Vinoli Siriwardana, Nisali Dissanayake and Iroshi Mahanthe, who have been selected to the national squad.

The 2013 squad comprises over 60 swimmers where the individual contributions have helped bring honours to the school.

Building Lasting Relationships: the Art, Science and Practice’ is an awareness creating seminar organized by the Old Girls’ Association of Ladies’ College for members and the public to be held on March 01. A useful seminar for all adults, whether they are married or single. To make the best use of the seminar both partners in a relationship are encouraged to attend.
Dr Piyanjali De Zoyza, BA, MA, PhD will make a 20-minute presentation on parent child relationships followed by a 20 minute presentation by Dr Maya Cockeram MBChB(UK) who will speak on relationships between adults. The panel will include an experienced male counselor who will be available for the discussion and question and answer session that follows. Questions can be sent in advance via email to ladiescollegeoga@gmail.com to be discussed at the Q & A session. Question cards will be issued to all participants so that questions can be sent up to the panelists and privacy maintained.
As life becomes more complicated and fast-paced, communication between two people in a relationship breaks down. We are stretched to the limit, with little energy for our personal lives. We are often left with a sense of isolation and exhaustion at home and in our relationship.
Especially now, a new trend in relationships has emerged. Partners in a relationship believe they are too busy or too exhausted to resolve their relationship issues, and often think their partners are either too demanding or that they just don’t understand. If your relationship breaks down it can be the greatest drain on you, also affecting your health and your work.
Understanding what is important to the other person helps a great deal in building a lasting relationship. Whether you are in a relationship, starting over, or single, you will discover practical ways to improve your communication, reduce the conflicts and arguments, create harmony with your partner, and enjoy a lasting relationship. You will learn why communication breaks down or why relationships have failed in the past, and what can be done now to help mend the situation or avoid such situations in the future.
The event will be held on March 1, 2013 at the Ladies College Hall. Tickets priced at Rs. 300 (OGA Members on production of the membership card) and Rs. 400 (Non Members) are available at the OGA Secretariat (Telephone 2575469 or 0773062111), with all committee members, the School and the DVS. The Secretariat is open on weekdays from 9 am to 1 pm. The seminar starts at 5 pm and should conclude by 6.30 pm. Refreshments will be served from 4.30 to 5 pm.

The donation was handed over to the Director of the hospital, Dr W. G. A. Dissanayake in the absence of Dr Bhathiya Alagoda, Consultant, by Shenali Fernando, Hony President of the OGA. The committee members of the OGA and the principal and vice principal of the school were present at the donation. Speaking at the event, Dr Dissanayake said the surgical instruments donated were vital for their services and the washing machine was a much needed item for the ward, noting that it was a very worthy cause as all patients were from low income families from the seven provinces who could not afford to go to private hospitals.

The most wonderful time of the year is here yet again!

It’s the time of the year where we generally go on shopping sprees, visiting and more often than not, are too engrossed in the commercial aspects of it to remember what Christmas is meant to symbolize: hope, new beginnings and spreading love and joy.

Although some of us support charities throughout the year, there is something about the Christmas spirit that magnifies your aspirations to share.

For the beautiful students at The Association of Individual Development Education School, if spreading love and hope is what Christmas stands for, then it’s Christmas every day.
